About this tool

Base64 represents data with 64 safe characters so it can travel by email, sit inside JSON or go into HTTP headers.

Text is converted to UTF-8 before encoding, so “ñ” or “😀” work correctly. Base64 isn't encryption: anyone can decode it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Base64 protect my data?

No. It's an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it.

What is URL-safe Base64?

A variant that uses - and _ instead of + and / and drops the = padding, so it works in URLs and JWTs.
