About this tool
Each emoji or accented letter counts as one character, the way a person sees it. We also show the size in bytes, useful for databases and SMS.
Common limits: 280 characters on X, about 155 for a meta description and 160 for a plain SMS.
Frequently asked questions
Do spaces count as characters?
Yes. We show both totals: with and without spaces.
Why are there more bytes than characters?
In UTF-8, accented letters take 2 bytes and emoji up to 4.
