About this tool

A hash is a unique fingerprint: change a single bit of the file and it changes completely. That's why it's used to verify downloads and data integrity.

SHA hashes are computed with your browser's crypto API. Files, even hundreds of megabytes, are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 is today's standard. MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for checking files but shouldn't be used for security.

Can a hash be decrypted?

No. A hash isn't encryption: it can't be reversed to get the original text.
