About this tool
The PDF is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest standard in the PDF specification, supported by Adobe Reader, browsers and modern readers.
Encryption happens in your browser: neither the document nor the password is ever sent to a server.
Printing or copying restrictions rely on the reader respecting them; the open password, however, is enforced by every app.
Frequently asked questions
Can you recover my password if I forget it?
No. We never see or store it. Without it the PDF can't be opened.
Is it secure?
Yes: AES-256 is the encryption banks and governments use. Choose a long, hard-to-guess password.
