About this tool

A UUID (GUID in the Microsoft world) is a 128-bit identifier that is practically impossible to repeat. They're generated with your browser's cryptographic random generator.

UUID v7 starts with the creation time, so values sort on their own and work better as database primary keys.

Frequently asked questions

Can they repeat?

In practice, no: the chance of a v4 collision is negligible even across billions of IDs.

Are UUID and GUID the same?

Yes, GUID is Microsoft's name for the same standard.
